约会 The Date

Hey, I’m going to tell you about my wax museum story. Um, so I would go with my little host brother, Javi, on our little dates because he never went into the city, although he lived really very close to the city, he would just never go into Madrid. So, he was always wanting to go, so I would, you know, pack him along and, "Alright, Where do you want to go?" and he wanted to go the wax museum one day. So we go to this wax museum and we were by ourselves in this creepy old building and it was really dark, and there were like a lot of wax, like figures everywhere, and they’re full size and you can actually touch them and take your picture with them, but the lighting, it was low lighting, so it was really dark, and it was kind of scaring him, you know cause, at the time he was like 10, or something, so he was going up to all the wax figures and like saying something to them, just to try to like combat his like fear, he’d be like, "Oh, you’re ugly" or "Oh, look at the hair on your head" and things like that. So he was insulting all of them, um, you know as you do when you are little, and so he went up to this one not realizing it was a real man, cause the man was standing absolultely still, he wasn’t moving at all, and he was like,"and you!" and the guy said, "What about me?" and I swear to God, Javi, screamed like a little girl, and ran at me, and I was like, "I’m sorry, senor. He didn’t mean anything by it. It’s OK." But he get a chance to insult him, thank God, but yeah it was cute. It was really cute.

Hiking

Todd: Every year my company gives me three weeks holiday, in summer, in August, and usually I go home and I see my family, but two years ago, before I went home, I took a hiking trip in Japan and I went hiking across the "Minami Alps", uh, "Minami" means "south" so they’re the Southern Alps in Japan. It was a really good hike. The hike took me five days. Before I went on the hike I needed to buy some gear so I bought a tent, a backpack, some hiking boots, and a good map of the area I was going to traverse. When I did the hike it was really, really hard. I was not prepared for how difficult it was going to be. Each day I had to hike about 12 hours, and the hardest part about each hike was having to carry lots and lots of water because you’re walking all day, you have to drink lots of water or else you’ll get dehydrated. The mountains were really steep, but once I got over the first mountain, it was just beautiful, really, really beautiful, and I met lots of really nice hikers, especially elderly hikers on the trail and I just had a great time. I just remember the beautiful views from the peaks and at night I could see the stars really clearly, probably more clearly than I ever had before. It was a really really good trip.

The Spider

It was interesting as well while we were out on the farm, there were thousands of trees I think out on the farm, so we saw lots of different insects and little animals as well. The most exciting thing I saw was a red back spider, because the red back is one of the most poisonous spiders in Australia. So I had been traveling there for over a year I think at that stage and I’d never seen a red back spider, but I’d seen lots of colorful spiders, so that every time I saw a new colored spider I’d go and have a look and maybe play with it a bit or take a photo, something like that, so while I was picking the macadamia nuts with my friends I saw a really brightly colored spider, so I decided to, to get a stick and and kind of turn over a leaf and see what it was doing, and then I was kind of looking at it for awhile and then suddenly I realized, "Oh, my God! It’s red and black, it’s a red back spider!" So I thought, OK, I’d better stop playing with this guy, and leave him alone. So after over a year in Australia I saw my first red back on this macadamia farm and then later on that night, just before I was going to bed, I walked into the room I was staying in with my friend, and there on my bed was baby redneck spider, red back spider, sorry and I couldn’t believe it. After one year, no red backs and then two in one day. It was a bit crazy really so I had to get someone to help me to get rid of it, cause it was a bit scary.
