Adrienne: Hey, Ian, tell me about the time you were at the hospital.

I got a parcel in the post this morning. I was really excited because I love getting the parcels in the post. I love getting letters too but I don’t know, there’s something special about a parcel, especially when you don’t know what’s going to be inside it. So I opened the parcel this morning and there, just in time for Christmas, and everything is a big huge thing of Toblerone Chocolates, which I love and also, a six-pack of Tayto’s Cheese and Onion Crisps. Now, Tayto’s is an Irish company, and so it’s an Irish brand name and these crisps or potato chips, maybe as other countries call them, these crisps are absolutely the best crisps in the world. There is no competition. I think if you ask any Irish person, they’ll tell you the same thing, so there’re real, quite a strong flavor, I think but really cheesy, em, but it’s funny because I don’t, I don’t usually like crisps. I’m not a big crisp fan, but these cheese and onion Tayto’s, I’ve just finished the first packet and it really makes me feel, makes me feel closer to home, I …my friends, this is the taste of home. They’re so good. You should really try some.

今天早上我在邮局领了一个包裹。我非常兴奋，因为我喜欢在邮局里领包裹。我也喜欢拿信，我不知道……，包裹有些特别，尤其是你不知道里面有什么东西的时候。今天上午我打开了包裹，刚好赶上圣诞节，所以包裹里面全是大块的三角巧克力，我非常喜欢三角巧克力，包裹里还有六块Tayto’s奶酪和洋葱薯片。Tayto’s是爱尔兰的公司，这是一个爱尔兰品牌，而这些薯片，可能别的国家称为马铃薯片，这些薯片绝对是世界上最好的薯片。没有竞争者。我想，如果你问任何一个爱尔兰人，他们都会告诉你同样的答案，薯片的味道很浓郁，有浓郁的奶酪味道，这很有趣，因为我实际上并不喜欢薯片。我对薯片不感兴趣，不过我刚刚吃完了一袋这种奶酪洋葱薯片，它真的让我有种离家很近的感觉。我……我的朋友们，这真的是家乡的味道。真是太好了。你们也应该尝尝。

I ended up in the hospital once after a baseball practice. What happened was, I was on first base trying to run to second base, as you might know in baseball that’s called stealing a base, so as I was stealing second base I tried to slide and rather than putting my hands up to protect them I landed on my arm and as soon as my arm hit the ground, everyone could hear a large "snap". It was like somoeone snapping their fingers really loud, and it was so loud that my dad, who was playing catcher asked me, "Did you break your arm?" and I took a look at my arm and it was completely out of shape.

Todd: OK, Jose, you just said you went to the Galapagos Islands.

OK, I’m going to talk about my one wish. I think everybody has one or two things they wish they could change about themselves and for me I really wish I could sing. Unfortunately I have a terrible voice. I cannot sing at all, and in Japan, this is very embarrassing because Japanese people love to go to karaoke, and karaoke is when you go with a bunch of friends to a place, a karaoke bar, I guess, or center, and you get a small room and inside the room there are TV’s and songs are on the TV’s. You can choose what songs to watch and then one person sings the song and everyone listens and it’s very popular in Japan and it’s a lot of fun but it’s really embarrassing because I can’t sing and everybody always says, " No, no, no, you sing. Oh, no, it’s OK. It’s OK. Don’t worry. Don’t be embarrassed," but after I sing, my singing is so bad that everybody doesn’t want me to sing anymore, so it’s also really hard for me because I teach children and I love teaching children and when you teach children you need to teach songs, and so I sing many, many songs with my students, for example, "Itsy-Bitsy Spider" or "Row-Row-Row your boat!" or many many songs, but I can’t sing and so luckily the kids really don’t care so usually it’s alright that my voice is really bad but sometimes they tell me, they say, "Sensei, Sensei!" in Japanese, "You’re singing is terrible!" so it’s really embarrassing but I have to do it. Songs are very important for children when they’re little. I think the reason I cannot sing is because unfortunately in my country we don’t sing as children and I really would like this to change. It really bothers me. I’ve noticed in Thailand, in Japan, in other countries that I have taught, children sing in elementary school a lot and in the United States you don’t do this and I think’s it’s terrible because you need to sing when you’re little to train your voice so it can learn tones and so it can learn how to sing properly and because I never learned to sing when I was little it’s almost impossible to learn how to sing when you’re older, so yeah, I really wish I could sing but I just don’t think that it’s ever going to be a reality.

我要谈谈我的一个愿望。我想所有人都会有一两个他们希望改变自己的地方，而我就希望我能唱歌。不幸的是，我的声音非常糟糕。我完全不会唱歌，在日本这是一件非常令人尴尬的事情，因为日本人喜欢去卡拉OK，卡拉OK就是你可以和一些朋友一起去玩的地方，我想就是卡拉OK酒吧或卡拉OK中心这种地方，你会有一个小房间，里面有电视，电视上会播放歌曲。你可以选择要唱的歌曲，一个人随着伴奏唱歌，其他人会听他唱，这在日本非常受欢迎，而且也很有趣，但是这真的让人非常尴尬，因为我不能唱歌，所有人都会说，“不，不，不，你唱吧。哦不，这没什么啦，没什么的。别担心，不要不好意思。”可是在我唱歌之后，我唱的非常糟，而所有人就不想再让我唱下去了，所以这对我来说很难，因为我教孩子们，我喜欢给孩子们上课，而你在教孩子们的时候，你要教他们唱歌，所以我会和学生们一起唱很多歌曲，比如我们唱过《小小蜘蛛》和《划船歌》，当然还有其他很多歌曲，但是我不会唱歌，不过幸运的是孩子们并不关心这点，所以通常很顺利，我的声音很糟，孩子们有时会用日语跟我说，“老师，老师！你唱得太差了！”所以这真令人难堪，可是我必须要教歌曲。在孩子们小的时候，歌曲对他们非常重要。我认为我不会唱歌的原因是，很不幸我们国家在孩子小时候不教授歌曲，而我真的希望这点可以改变。这真的让我很担心。我注意到，泰国、日本还有我教学过的其他国家，孩子们在小学都会唱很多歌曲，而在美国却不会这么做，我认为这很糟糕，因为你要在小时候通过唱歌来训练你的声音，这样就可以学习音调，学习如何正确地歌唱，因为我小时候从来没学过唱歌，所以在长大以后要学习唱歌几乎不可能，所以我真的很希望我可以唱歌，但是我认为这永远不会成为现实了。

Adrienne: I understand you recently rode a train from Milwaukee to Minneapolis. Was this the first time you ever rode a train?

埃德里安娜：我知道你刚刚乘火车从密尔沃基去了明尼阿波利斯。这是你第一次坐火车吗？

Todd: So, Ivan, where are you from?

We have a lot of great ski areas in Colorado so I started skiing at a very early age. I think I was about 5 or 6 years old when I began and one time I went up the chair lift and on the first run down in the morning I was skiing on a pretty icy section and I got going pretty fast and suddenly I hit a much softer patch of snow and it threw me forward and I had a terrible crash and I couldn’t move my leg so my dad asked someone to call the ski patrol and when the ski patrol came down they put me in a sled and the ski patrol skied in front of the sled and took me all the way down to the medical clinic. They have a small clinic with doctors right at the ski area. Although they don’t have the equipment to, to fix my leg.

科罗拉多州有很多很棒的滑雪场，所以我很小就开始滑雪了。我想那大概是5、6岁的时候，有一次上午的时候，我坐升降椅上去，在第一次滑下来的时候，我是在一个结了很多冰的区域上滑的，我滑的速度很快，可是突然我撞到了一块柔软的雪，然后我就冲向前面摔倒了，当时我的腿不能动，所以我爸爸让别人给滑雪巡逻队打电话，滑雪巡逻队来了以后把我放在雪橇上，然后他们在雪橇前面滑，一直把我带去了医疗诊所，那里有滑雪场的医生。不过他们并没有设备来固定我的腿。

Marion: So Steve what’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
