since the pre-historic times, man has had an urge to satisfy his needs. be it hunger, shelter or search for a mate, he has always manipulated the circumstances to the best of his advantages. probably this might be the reason why we human are the most developed of all living species on the earth, and probably also in the universe. as we climbed the steps of evolution with giant leaps, we somehow left behind common sense and logical thinking — we forgot that we have stopped thinking ahead of times.

if you are hungry, what do you do? grab a piece of your favorite meal and stay quiet after that? just like your stomach, even your mind is hungry. but it never lets you know, because you keep it busy thinking about your dream lover, favorite star and many such absurd things. so it silently began to heed to your needs and never let itself grow. when mind looses its freedom to grow, creativity gets a full stop. this might be the reason why we all sometimes think “what happens next?”, “why can’t i think?”, “why am i always given the difficult problems?” well this is the aftermath of our own karma of using our brain for thinking of not-so-worthy things.

hunger of the mind can be actually satiated through extensive reading. now why reading and not watching tv? because reading has been the most educative tool used by us right from the childhood. just like that to develop other aspects of our life, we have to take help of reading. you have innumerable number of books in this world which will answer all your “how to?” questions. once you read a book, you just don’t run your eyes through the lines, but even your mind decodes it and explains it to you. the interesting part of the book is stored in your mind as a seed. now this seed is unknowingly used by you in your future to develop new ideas. the same seed if used many times, can help you link and relate a lot of things, of which you would have never thought of in your wildest dreams! this is nothing but creativity. more the number of books you read, your mind will open up like never before. also this improves your oratory skills to a large extent and also makes a significant contribution to your vocabulary. within no time you start speaking english or any language fluently with your friends or other people and you never seem to run out of the right words at the right time.

　　we were just about getting ready to warm up for the practice game over the weekend when i had an interesting conversation with one of the team mates i actually didn’t know quite well。

　　周末的时候，当我们正要为即将到来的游戏热身，团队成员中有一个我其实不太了解的成员和我进行了一场有趣的对话。

　　“so what do you do?” he asked. “well, we work for ourselves, we run a software company”, i replied. “oh really! that’s awesome! i work for xyz company, but you know i always wanted to get into animation design and work for myself. it was my dream. i got stuck in the wrong industry.”

　　“你是做什么工作的？”他问道。“嗯，我们为自己打工，我们开了一个软件公司”我回答。“真的？那真是太棒了！我为xx公司工作，但你知道我一直想做动画设计，想做自由职业。那是我的梦想。我现在被困在一个错误的行业里。”

　　“you ain’t dead yet, are you?” i thought trying hard not say that aloud. he continued “you know, i’ve been wanting to do this for 10 years now, but once you have a family, it’s very tough to do anything else.”

　　“你不还没死呢吗……” 我挣扎着没把这句吼出来。他继续说：“你知道吗？我想做这行都有十年了，但是一旦你有了家庭，那想要再做点儿别的事就难了。”

　　i couldn’t resist anymore, so i said “that’s great, if you really want to do that, may be you should take up some animation classes, or do some self learning at your own pace. that would be a good start”. pat came the reply “nahh it’s very difficult, with family, full time job, no time. i would love to, but i can’t.”

　　reluctantly, i suggested “then may be you should consider training full time for a few weeks/months and perhaps dive in full-time?” he looked at me like i had just asked him to cut off his right hand. “are you crazy? where will the paycheck come from?”

　　我老大不乐意地建议他说：“那也许，你应该试试花几周、或是几个月的时间集中培训，要不就辞职去学习？” 他看着我那小样儿就跟我在教他剁掉自己右手似的：“你疯了吗？那我要怎么生活！？”

　　realizing this conversation was heading towards an argument with someone i didn’t know very well at the first place, i chose to just smile and leave it at that. but it made me think. what is it with people refusing to take some risks to follow their dreams. are their dreams not worth it? if not, why do we sulk about them later? don’t we owe it to ourselves to at least give our dreams a fair shot?

　　so why is it that as we grow up we lose all the passion, the energy, the will and the strength to keep our dreams alive. why does money dictate our passion or in most cases, kill it? why do we let “safety of a paycheck” screw our dreams? why do we stop thinking about what we love?

　　we are so seduced by the thought of a guaranteed paycheck every month that we completely ignore the fact that it’s actually never too late to pursue our dreams. the reason as i can understand is probably “fear of failure”. we fear we might fail and that fear leads us to cook up stories about why you can’t have what you want. alibis like “i don’t have time, i have family, i’ll do it when i have more money etc”. stories that convince us that it’s ok not to follow up on our dreams, that it’s ok not to do what you love, that it’s ok to just keep doing the everyday drill。

　　like tony robbins put it - “the only thing that’s keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself about why you can’t have it”

　　what are we waiting for? a perfect day when all stars would line up in just the right direction and you would be guaranteed success? it never works that way. that moment of glory never arrives. all circumstances will almost never be in your favor. there will always be something that would be challenging. you just have to bite the bullet and take the plunge. when we set out to create rootein, we didn’t wait for everything to be just perfect, much as we would have liked. we just dived in. we started developing rootein while we were working full-time. we loved what we were doing and we did it while keeping our day time jobs. it wasn’t easy, but it was fun because we were chasing our dream of working for ourselves, building software that we were passionate about。

　　may be it’s just us. may be we are weird. may be we are foolish, but we would rather be foolish and strive to live our dream than come up with some alibis. true success is not money driven, it’s driven by love and passion. you’ve got to love what you are doing and you’ve got to be passionate about it。

　　failing is not scary. what’s scary is that you are 60 and reflecting back on your life “may be i should’ve given my dreams a chance, may be i would’ve succeeded, may be i would’ve lived my dream” but now it’s too late. you might have missed the boat。

these days i keep thinking on how to manage the corrupt officers and guilty merchants in all fields of our social life. they should not be all inject to die like wen qiang since we trained them too long and it will be our great loses if that happen so often. we would guide them. in early capitalism the europe royalty encouraged their people to rob all over the world to build their strong empire. the corrupt officers and guilty merchants have scourged china too much and they should be monitored to conquer the outside world by taking politics and economy in their control by means of black and white approaches.

Just like a boxer, we, too come face to face with many opponents in the arena of life—problems and difficulties. The bad news is, we don’t really know when our bouts with these opponents occur—no posters and promotional TV commercials; no pre-fight Press Conference and weigh in to make sure that we measure up to our opponent; and there is no Pay Per View coverage.

You don’t practice in the arena, that’s where your skills and your abilities are evaluated. This also means that you don’t practice solving problems and developing yourself when problems occur, you prepare yourself to face them long before you actually face them.

Talent is good but training is even better. Back in college, one of my classmates in Political Science did not bring any textbook or notebook in our classes; he just listened and participated in discussions. What I didn’t understand was how he became a magna cum laude! Apparently, he was gifted with a great memory and analytical skills. In short, he was talented.

Training enables you to gain intuition and reflexes. Malcolm Gladwell, in his book Outliers, said that artists, athletes and anyone who wants to be successful, need 10,000 hours of practice to become really great. With constant practice and training, you hone your body, your mind and your heart and gain the intuition and reflexes of a champion. Same thing is true in life.

Winners train. If you want to win, train yourself for it. You may be a lucky person and you can win a race, or overcome a problem at first try. But if you do not train, your victory may be like a one-time lottery win, which you cannot capitalize on over the long run.and you become fitter and more capable of finishing the race.

Keep in mind that training is borne out of discipline and perseverance. Even if you encounter some setbacks in your training regime, if you keep at it and persevere, you will soon see results in your life and when problems come, you will be like the champion boxer who stands tall and fights until the final round is over and you’re proclaimed as the champion!
